Concept design tool offers architects freedom of sketching while generating a rich 3D model

Cerulean Labs has unveiled Spaces 1.2, an update to its architecture-focused conceptual design tool for the iPad that turns 2D sketches into flexible 3D parametric designs.

The 1.2 release introduces two key new features: the ability to cut sections through designs so the user can further explore their form and integrate with their surroundings; and project sharing, where those on a paid subscription can share their projects with other stakeholders. Other features, such as Shadow Studies and cloud backup, are coming soon.

Spaces is an architectural focused concept design tool that is built from the ground up to take advantage of the iPad and Apple Pencil.

While the model is being developed via sketches, building data – floor areas – are calculated and reported live. According to the developers, this data-driven approach to design ensures conceptual designs maximise potential while also aiding with planning compliance.

Prices start at $29 per month, but there is also a free version. The Spaces Starter Plan contains the core functionality required to design, iterate quickly, and review building designs with accurate building data available in real-time, but is limited to three projects and does not include some of the more advanced features included in the paid Spaces Plan.

Cerulean labs is also developing Spaces Pro, which will add ‘pro-level’ features for $79 per month. The software will be released in Q2 2022.
